(x,y) Coordinates and Plotting Points - Concept

When we want to put a numerical relationship on the graph, the input, is called the x number and is plotted side to side, whereas the output or y is plotted up and down. We list these points as (x, y) carteesian coordinate pairs. Positive x is right, negative x is left, positive y is up, negative y is down. The point where the two number lines cross is called the origin and has coordinates (0, 0). The number lines are called the x and y axes. Plotting points correctly takes practice- be sure side to side comes first, and then up and down comes second!
