To compare fractions, if they already have common denominators, we look at the numerators only to compare them. If they don't have common denominators, re-write them in equivalent forms so that they DO have common denominators. Sometimes with mixed numbers we can tell immediately which is larger. If not, turn mixed numbers in to improper fractions.
